Polish - Finnish Open Foresight Seminar

pikselNowadays change is the only true constant. Institutions, organisations as well as individuals need to get prepared to coexist with change, to manage uncertainty and to navigate complexity and to develop a future-oriented mind-set.

The Institute for Sustainable Technologies – National Research Institute is deeply aware of the challenge and pays due attention to the field of Futures Studies.

Willing to deepen its knowledge and to enhance further co-operation in the field, the Institute will held a devoted event: “The Polish-Finnish Foresight Seminar”.

The Institute is honoured to welcome at the event Prof. Osmo Kuusi.

Prof Kuusi is Associate Professor in Futures and Innovation Studies at Aalto University and the Scientific Adviser of the Futures Research Centre in Turku. He has been member of the board and president or of the Finnish Society for Futures Studies. He worked also as e.g. the Statistics of Finland, the Prime Minister’s Office of Finland, the Academy of Finland, VATT (Government Institute for Economic Research), the Finnish Innovation Fund (Sitra), and as Scientific Adviser for technology assessment and foresight in the Committee for the Future of the Parliament of Finland.

The Seminar is composed of two main sessions.

In the first session, Ms Anna Sacio-Szymańska from ITeE-PIB will present a summary of the Foresight activities in Poland, at the national, regional and sectoral level.

In the second session, Prof. Kuusi will present best practice from the rich tradition of Foresight in Finland. In 2012, the Committee for the Future ordered a study concerning future radical technologies. Thus, in addition, Prof. Kuusi will present the structure, the obtained results and the potential of the Finnish study “Radical Technologies Inquirer”, giving an opportunity for pondering on similarities and possibilities with and for the Polish Foresight activities.

It will take place at the Institute premises at 10:30.
